A Passion for Landscapes, Decades in the Making
-
Growing up in Pennsylvania, Phil spent his summers working alongside a landscape architect, helping design and build residential and commercial gardens, patios, stone walls, swimming pools, and other outdoor spaces. Those early experiences introduced him to both the creativity of landscape design and the satisfaction of seeing an idea take shape.
Phil went on to earn a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Urban Studies from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
While completing his degree, he began an internship with the Metropolitan District Commission, now part of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. That opportunity developed into his first full-time professional role, where Phil contributed to projects ranging from historic landscape and garden restoration to parks, playgrounds, beaches, and other public outdoor spaces.

Phil later brought his background in landscape and site design into the commercial development industry. Over the course of more than two decades, he led planning, permitting, design, development, and construction initiatives for national organizations and multidisciplinary project teams.
Working alongside architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and vendors, Phil managed complicated projects from initial concept through construction and completion. His career gave him an in-depth understanding of the practical considerations behind a successful design, including budgets, schedules, approvals, contractor coordination, and the details that help preserve the original vision throughout construction.
This ability to bridge design and execution now provides Arbor & Stone clients with more than a creative plan. It gives them an experienced partner who understands what it takes to bring that plan to life.

Landscape design remained a passion throughout Phil’s commercial career. He continued creating gardens, patios, plantings, and outdoor spaces for friends, family, and his own home, always with the idea that he would one day return to where his professional journey began.
Phil founded Arbor & Stone Landscape Design to do exactly that. Today, he combines his landscape design foundation, construction management experience, and appreciation for timeless outdoor spaces to serve homeowners throughout the South Shore.
A longtime South Shore resident, Phil has a genuine connection to the area and an appreciation for its homes, coastal character, and changing New England seasons. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, golfing, cooking, and tackling the next improvement project around his own home.
Arbor & Stone founder Phil Woodyatt brings together a lifelong passion for landscape design and more than 30 years of experience in planning, development, and construction management.
